SAN DIEGO (UCSD) - The 8th-ranked UC San Diego baseball team split a doubleheader with Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday afternoon at Triton Baseball Field. UCSD won the first game 11-1 behind Guido Knudson (6-4) pitching eight innings and allowing just one run. The Triton offense recorded 16 hits and homeruns by James Ferguson and Chris Franco. In the second game, CSUMB jumped out to a 7-1 lead en route to an 8-4 win. The Tritons brought the potential tying run to the plate in the sixth inning of the second game but could not capitalize. UCSD is now 41-13, 25-10 California Collegiate Athletic Association, while the Otters are now 16-35, 8-27 CCAA.
Tennis Advances
The No. 23 UC San Diego women's tennis team defeated the visiting No. 32 Cal Poly Pomona Broncos in the first round of the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship on Saturday morning at the Northview Tennis Courts by a 5-0 score. The Tritons improved their record to 14-10 and will play BYU-Hawaii in the second round of the tournament. The Broncos conclude their season with a record of 7-10.
Track & Field Competes
With day two of the CCAA Track and Field Championships in the books the team title picture got clearer. After seven scored events the women sit in second place, 12 points behind Chico State and 34.5 points ahead of third place Cal State L.A. The men have accumulated 34 points through five events and are a mere 3 points behind second place
