BRONX, New York (Ticker) -- Andy Pettitte tossed seven stellar innings and Jason Giambi belted a pair of homers as the New York Yankees extended their winning streak to five games with an 8-0 victory over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday. Pettitte (7-5) limited San Diego to five hits and one walk. The lefthander, who improved to 4-1 lifetime against the Padres, struck out a season-high nine in stretching his personal winning streak to four.

Two batters after Alex Rodriguez opened the scoring in the second inning with a solo homer, Giambi launched a solo shot of his own for a 2-0 lead. The slugger doubled New York's advantage with a two-run blast in the fourth, completing his second two-homer performance of the season. Derek Jeter drove in two runs for the Yankees, who have scored 24 unanswered runs since the eighth inning of Saturday's 8-4 triumph over the Houston Astros.

San Diego starter Randy Wolf (5-5) lasted just four innings, allowing seven runs - five earned - and six hits. The southpaw, who walked two and struck out two, saw his winning streak end at three as he surrendered more than three runs for the first time in seven outings.
