BOSTON (Ticker) -- Kevin Garnett had 26 points and 14 rebounds as the Boston Celtics secured their league-best 17th championship with a 131-92 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers in Game Six of the NBA Finals at a rowdy TD Banknorth Garden on Tuesday night. Ray Allen scored 26 points and Paul Pierce added 17 for the Celtics, who improved to 13-1 at home this postseason en route to their first title since 1986. Holding a four-point lead after the first quarter, Boston proceeded to embarrass Los Angeles, outscoring its archrival, 34-15, in the second period en route to a 58-35 lead at halftime. The duration of the second half was played with the outcome already decided in one of the most lopsided wins in Finals history. It fell just short of the largest margin of victory ever in the Finals in which Phil Jackson's Chicago Bulls routed the Utah Jazz by 42 points in 1998. Kobe Bryant scored 22 points on just 7-of-22 shooting for the Lakers, who failed to become the first team in the history of the championship series to erase a 3-1 deficit after staving off elimination in Game Five.
