The seventh overall pick of the 2006 draft, Kershaw (0-1, 4.34 ERA) is making his seventh career start. The 20-year-old lefthander allowed four runs and four hits in five-plus innings of a 6-4, 10-inning loss to Cleveland on Friday. Prior to that, Kershaw had allowed just four runs and 13 hits in his last 14 1/3 innings. Kershaw will try and help the Dodgers improve on their dismal 3-8 interleague mark.
Chicago, which has lost 10 of its last 11 road games, counters with John Danks (4-4, 2.80) Danks is winless in his last four starts despite allowing just seven runs in his last 23 2/3 innings. The lefthander yielded just one run and five hits in six innings, but did not factor into the decision in a loss to the Chicago Cubs on Friday.
