PAPA TABBED TO REPLACE GUMBEL ON NFLN GAMES

MELVILLE, New York (Ticker) -- The NFL Network has found a new play-by-play man for their eight-game package Wednesday, according to a published report. Newsday is reporting that New York Giants' play-by-play announcer, Bob Papa, will be NFL Network's successor to Bryant Gumbel, who resigned from the post after two seasons.

He will work next to Cris Collinsworth, who will continue to serve as the color analyst for the NFL Network's package of games, which begins on November 10 when the Cleveland Browns host the Denver Broncos. Papa, who will also remain the Giants' radio play-by-play man, received national attention during the team's Super Bowl XLII run. He also calls boxing for HBO.

The NFL Network games, primarily on Thursdays, will not conflict with either of his duties, according to the report. Other candidates rumored for the job was current NFL Network anchor Spero Dedes and Tom Hammond, who filled in for Gumbel while he was ill for a game during the 2007 season.
