SoCal MLB NL Preview
Colorado (10-13) at La Dodgers (10-13), 7:10 pm
LOS ANGELES (Ticker) - After a slow start, Russell Matin is back on track.Martin and the Dodgers go for a second straight win on Saturday when they continue a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies.
After beginning the season mired in a slump, the All-Star's bat is starting to heat up as Martin has reached base safely in 18 of his last 25 at-bats, raising his average to .276. "The game of baseball just seems to even out," Martin said. "I started the season pretty brutal, but now I'm just trying to do what I can to get on base and put some good at-bats together.
"Martin was the hero during the series-opener on Friday as his sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 13th inning plated Matt Kemp to lift the Dodgers to an 8-7 victory. The 25-year-old tied a career high with four hits on Friday, reached base safely six times and played a different position besides catcher for the first time since Class AA - taking over at third base in the ninth inning after Nomar Garciaparra left with a strained left calf.
Matin looks to remain hot against Rockies lefthander Mark Redman (2-1, 5.23 ERA), who will oppose Dodgers ace Brad Penny (3-2, 2.67).
