Padres On Deck vs. Rockies, Game 1 of 3

Colorado (5-7) at San Diego (7-6), 7:05 pm, 4SD/1090/105.7

SAN DIEGO (Ticker) - Fans can only hope the first series of the season between the San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies can meet the excitement the last game between the two teams contained. The Padres and Rockies meet in a three-game set for the first time since a one-game playoff to conclude the regular season and determine the NL wild-card for 2007. After 13 innings, the Rockies emerged victorious, sending them on their way to their third straight win at the time. They then swept Philadelphia in three games in the NL Division Series and Arizona in four games in the NL Championship Series before getting swept themselves by Boston in the World Series.

In an attempt to get their sixth straight win over the Padres, the Rockies will turn to Ubaldo Jimenez (1-1, 4.91 ERA), who got the win in his second start of the season last Tuesday. The righthander allowed three runs and six hits over six innings in a 4-3 victory over Atlanta.

His counterpart on the mound will be Randy Wolf (0-0, 2.25), who has not factored into the decision in either of his two starts despite pitching very effectively. The lefthander permitted two runs and five hits over six frames last Tuesday in a 3-2, 11-inning loss to San Francisco.
