MESA, Arizona (Ticker) -- Alex Cintron's pinch-hit RBI single in the ninth inning lifted the Chicago Cubs to a 3-2 Cactus League victory over the San Diego Padres on Thursday.

The Cubs received a strong effort from starting pitcher Jason Marquis, who allowed just two hits in four scoreless innings. The righthander walked two and struck out two. Greg Maddux pitched two scoreless innings for the Padres. Maddux, who will turn 42 next month, yielded two hits and struck out one. The 41-year-old departed after being struck in the upper leg by a ground ball by Chicago first baseman Derrek Lee.

The four-time Cy Young Award winner went to the locker room with a left leg contusion and is listed as day to day. Chicago second baseman Mark DeRosa went 2-for-3 with a walk as he continues on the mend from having surgery to correct an irregular heartbeat.
