Tritons Report



SAN DIEGO (UCSD) - The UC San Diego men's basketball team put up a valiant effort but came out on the wrong side of a 78-76 decision on Saturday night at Cal Poly Pomona. With the win the Broncos improve to 11-12 overall and 10-8 in CCAA play while the Tritons fall to 15-9 overall and 11-7 in league action. Allard netted a game-high 19 points in the loss for the Tritons while Lawlor added 16 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Andrew Hatch added 12 points and three assists. Head coach Chris Carlson's team remains alone in third place, three games behind Cal State San Bernardino and two behind Humboldt State, both of whom have locked up hosting responsibilities for the first round of the CCAA Championship Tournament that begins on March 4.

Women Lose toPamona
The UC San Diego women's basketball team lost to Cal Poly Pomona for the second time in as many tries this season, this time falling by a 72-55 score on Saturday evening in Kellogg Gymnasium on the CPP campus. With the loss the Tritons drop to 20-8 overall and 12-6 in CCAA play while the Broncos improve to 11-13 overall and 8-10 in conference action.UCSD falls into a tie for third place in the CCAA standings alongside Sonoma State. Both teams trail CCAA leader Chico State by three games and Cal State San Bernardino by two. Both Chico State and CSUSB have secured home court advantage for the first round of the CCAA Tournament while Sonoma State and UCSD will need one win in the final two regular season games next week to host the first round playoff game on Tuesday, March 4.
