SAN DIEGO (UCSD) - The UC San Diego men's basketball team rallied from a double-digit first half deficit for a 55-52 victory over visiting Cal Poly Pomona in front of a season-high 1,209 fans on Friday evening in RIMAC Arena. With the win the Tritons improve to 8-4 overall and 5-2 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play while dropping the Broncos to 6-7 overall and 5-3 in conference action. UCSD made three 3-pointers to during a 20-4 spurt and would go into the intermission with a 27-23 advantage. The two teams would exchange buckets through the first 11 minutes of the second stanza until Alan Husted hit back-to-back 3-point shots within 40 seconds of one another
Women Fall Short
The 20th-ranked UC San Diego women's basketball team rallied from a 10 point second half deficit only to come up short in a 66-61 loss to visiting Cal Poly Pomona on Friday night in RIMAC Arena. With the loss the Tritons fall to 12-5 overall and 4-3 in CCAA play while the Broncos improve to 7-7 overall and 4-4 in league action. UCSD never held a lead until the 11:54 mark of the second half as an Alexis Gaskin jumper capped off a 12-1 run, giving the Tritons a 44-43 advantage. The Tritons would push that lead up to five points with 6:15 to go, but the Broncos rallied with a 10-3 run over the next four minutes and never looked back.
