North Carolina Remains #1

MCLEAN, Virginia (Ticker) -- The top six teams remained unchanged in the latest USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll released Monday. After narrowly escaping with a 90-88 overtime win at Clemson on Sunday, North Carolina (15-0) picked up 23 first-place votes and 765 points overall.
Memphis (13-0), which won its two games by a combined 81 points last week, is ranked second. The Tigers garnered six first-place votes and 747 points. Coming off an 85-60 rout at Boston College, Kansas (14-0) picked up the other two first-place votes and 719 points. Washington State (13-0), which rallied for a 56-52 win at Pac-10 Conference rival Washington on Saturday, is fourth. North Carolina, Memphis, Kansas and Washington State are among six unbeaten teams in the country. The others are Vanderbilt (15-0) and Mississippi (13-0). Rounding out the the first five is UCLA (14-1). The Bruins were impressive in wins at Stanford at California last week.
Michigan State (13-1) is sixth, followed by Duke (11-1), Georgetown (11-1), Tennessee (12-1) and Texas A&M (14-1). The next five are Indiana (12-1), Vanderbilt, Texas (13-2), Butler (13-1) and Mississippi (13-0).
Marquette (11-2) is 16th, followed by Villanova (11-2), Pittsburgh (12-2), Clemson (12-2) and Rhode Island (14-1). Rounding out the poll are Wisconsin (12-2), Dayton (12-1), Stanford (12-2), Arizona (10-4) and Xavier (12-3). Saint Mary's was the only team to drop out of the poll.
