SAN DIEGO (Source: USD) - The University of San Diego men's soccer team returns to the pitch this weekend with a double header from the confines of Torero Stadium. The team is currently on a two game winning streak after defeating both the University of Portland Pilots and the Gonzaga University Bulldogs last weekend.The Toreros are currently holding fourth place in the conference with a 5-6-0 record and a 2-1-0 mark in the WCC rankings giving them four points. In the upcoming weekend, San Diego will play the bottom three teams in the conference starting with Saint Mary's on Friday night and University of San Francisco on Sunday afternoon.Scouting the Gaels: The Saint Mary's Gaels are currently fifth in the WCC with one point. They hold a 0-2-1 conference mark and a 4-4-1 overall record.
The USD women's tennis team will participate this week in the Wilson/ITA West Regional Championships, Oct 18-22, which is being held at the Barnes Tennis Center. USD is co-hosting the championships with San Diego State University. The singles finalists and doubles champion from this weekend's event will earn automatic berths into the ITA National Indoor Championships, Nov. 1-4 in Columbus, Ohio. The 16-team tournament gets underway on Thursday with first-round doubles matches beginning at 9 am. USD's Monica Wiesener is seeded among the top 16 players, and along with teammates Helene Lindstrand and Ellie Faulkner, will have first round byes in singles.
The USD Torero football team (6-0; 3-0 pfl), under the direction of first year head coach Ron Caragher, return to Torero Stadium this Saturday, October 20th, when they face the Jacksonville Dolphins (2-4; 1-2 pfl) in a Pioneer Football League contest. Saturday's radio broadcast will air live on 1700 AM (Jack Cronin & Ted Tollner), and via the internet at www.usdtoreros.com, with pregame starting at 5:45 pm. San Diego leads the series, 2-0. The Toreros won last season in Jacksonville, Florida, by the score of 38-21. In their first meeting back in 2002, USD won 44-20 in a home game at Torero Stadium. USD will gunning for its 23rd straight win at Torero Stadium.
