SAN DIEGO (Source: USD & SDSU) - Sophomore outside hitter Amy DeGroot's career-high 26 kills combined with Laurel Abrahamson's 16 kills and Ali Troost's 13 kills were not enough to get the 18th-ranked University of San Diego women's volleyball team past No. 5 UCLA in the championship of the USD Tournament, as the Bruins barley escaped the Jenny Craig Pavilion with a 3-2 (30-20, 23-30, 30-27, 25-30, 13-15) win. With the loss, the Toreros fall to 7-4 overall and saw their five-match winning streak come to an end. With the win, the Bruins improve to 10-1 overall and run their winning streak to nine.
San Diego State built a two-game lead only to see 12th-ranked Brigham Young come all the way back for a 3-2 (24-30, 25-30, 30-26, 30-24, 15-7) win over the Aztecs Saturday night in Peterson Gym. The loss ended SDSU's six-match winning streak as its record dropped to 9-3 overall and 1-1 in Mountain West Conference play. BYU evened its MWC mark at 1-1 as well while improving to 7-3 overall.
