DOES NASCAR HAVE NEW TITLE SPONSOR NAME?
Beginning with the 2008 season, Sprint will replace Nextel as title sponsor of NASCAR's premiere racing series, multiple high-ranking industry sources told ESPN.com on condition of anonymity. The series will be known as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, sources said. NASCAR declined comment. This would mark the third name since 2003 for NASCAR's Cup Series.
PGA TOUR LOOKING AT DRUG TESTING
The PGA Tour is looking at drug testing in the near future. Saying drug testing in sports has become a reality, PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said golf organizations around the world should work closely to develop rules that ultimately could lead to testing. "It's unfortunate that these realities are with us, but they are,'' Finchem said Wednesday, speaking to a group of reporters at the Travelers Championship. "And we have to deal with them, and I think it's important that golf deal with them collectively.'' Finchem previously has defended the Tour's lack of a drug-testing program, suggesting he had no evidence of drugs that would help or any players using performance-enhancing drugs.
YAHOO BUYS RIVALS.COM
Yahoo said it has reached an agreement to purchase Rivals.com, a college football and basketball-focused news and community site. While the company did not disclose terms of the deal, sources placed the value of the transaction in the neighborhood of $100 million. Rivals.com, which launched in 2001, is one of the more popular online sports websites.
