San Diego Seeks Another Series Win

Baltimore (30-41) at San Diego (41-29), 12:35 pm, 1090/105.7
SAN DIEGO (Ticker) - The Baltimore Orioles' luck changed on Wednesday, but will that fortune carry over to Erik Bedard's start on Thursday? The Orioles' win here on Wednesday snapped a season-high nine-game losing skid and gave interim manager Dave Trembley his first win of the season. The Orioles fired Sam Perlozzo as manger on Monday.
Considered Baltimore's staff ace, Bedard (4-4, 3.64) can't seem top catch a break this season. The lefthander has allowed three runs or less in each of his last nine starts but has only one win to show for it.
David Wells (3-4, 4.86) takes the mound for the Padres, who are 21-13 at home this season. Wells has pitched effectively at PETCO Park this season, posting a 1-0 record and 2.95 ERA in six starts spanning 39 2/3 innings. The 44-year-old lefthander faced Baltimore once last season, getting the win after allowing one earned run in seven innings during a 9-2 victory.
San Diego closer Trevor Hoffman, who earned the 500th save of his career earlier this month, is one save away from recording his 500th save as a member of the Padres.
The Orioles coasted to a 7-1 victory over Padres here on Wednesday. The first four batters in the Baltimore lineup - Brian Roberts, Nick Markakis, Kevin Millar and Miguel Tejada went 8-for-16 with three RBI in the win. Baltimore has just three wins in its last 17 games.
