Shockwave Is Class of NIFL; Routs LA Again 77-6

by Jon Greene
SAN DIEGO - The expansion San Diego Shockwave of the National Indoor Football League (NIFL) has become the flagship franchise of the fledgling league. The Shockwave routed the Los Angeles Lynx, 77-6, at Cox Arena before an estimated crowd of 2,000 on Saturday night to improve to 5-1.
San Diego has done almost everything right in its first year of existence compared to other NIFL teams. The Shockwave play in a first-class arena, has a competent staff, puts on a good show for its fans and has a solid team on the field aiming for a championship. The franchise has averaged about 2,000 patrons per home game on Montezuma Mesa. In fact, the team has attracted interest from the more stable Arena Football 2 league to join its circuit for next season. The decision to switch leagues will be made in the future.
Wyoming, which is another strong franchise, will face the Shockwave in its next home game on May 26 at Cox Arena. San Diego's only loss to date came in week two of the season at Wyoming, 57-20.
