Padres Send Germano Against Braves

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- The San Diego Padres have relied on some stellar pitching in recent games. They hope Justin Germano can keep it going. Germano will take the hill for the Padres when they face the Atlanta Braves in the second game of a four-game series on Tuesday. Ace Jake Peavy allowed just one hit in seven innings in a 3-1 win over Florida on Sunday. One night later, Chris Young tossed six strong innings in a 4-2 victory over the Braves in the series opener.

Called up after Clay Hensley was sidelined with a strained groin Thursday, Germano (NR) has gone 1-3 with an 8.04 ERA in nine career appearances - including six starts - with San Diego and Cincinnati. He was 4-0 with a 1.69 ERA in five starts for Class AAA Portland.

The Braves will counter with a minor-league call-up of their own - Andrew Lerew (NR). He also will be filling in for an injured starter after Mark Redman went on the disabled list with a toe injury. Lerew went 1-0 with a 1.37 ERA in five starts for Class AAA Richmond.
