Padres on Deck @ Diamondbacks, Game 2 of 3, (Series 1-0)

San Diego (34-53) at Arizona (43-44), 5:10 pm, 4SD/1090/105.7

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Jake Peavy attempts to avoid losing a third straight decision as he takes the mound for the San Diego Padres on Saturday when they face the Arizona Diamondbacks in the middle contest of a three-game series.

Peavy (5-5, 2.90 ERA) surrendered three runs and 10 hits with a walk and six strikeouts over six innings during Sunday's 9-2 loss to the Seattle Mariners. The reigning National League Cy Young Award winner, Peavy has just one win in four starts after spending nearly a month on the disabled list. The 27-year-old Peavy went 19-6 with a National League-best 2.54 ERA and 240 strikeouts last season.

The Diamondbacks will counter with lefthander Doug Davis (3-3, 3.79), who also missed significant time this season on the DL. Davis, who spent slightly over six weeks out of action while recovering from cancer, has just two win since coming back from the DL on May 23. Kevin Kouzmanoff and Jody Gerut each collected two hits as San Diego won for just the second time in 12 contests, posting a 5-1 triumph on Friday.
