ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- Troy Glaus carried his hot bat straight through the All-Star break. Glaus and the St. Louis Cardinals go for their third straight win on Friday when they continue a series against the San Diego Padres.

The slugging third baseman opened the second half by hitting two of St. Louis' four solo home runs, helping the Cardinals to a 4-3 victory over the Padres on Thursday. It was the second multi-homer game of the season for Glaus, who has 17 overall. The 31-year-old veteran has homered in each of his last three games while reaching base in 14 of 17 plate appearances. Glaus will seek to continue his exploits against Greg Maddux.

Maddux (3-8, 3.90 ERA) is coming off a pair of losses in his last two starts and hasn't recorded a victory since May 10. The veteran righthander allowed three runs and six hits in seven innings, but received one run of support for the second straight outing during Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Atlanta Braves.

Braden Looper (9-7, 4.25) is also looking to snap a personal two-game losing streak when he counters for the Cardinals.
