Marlins Take Series With Win

SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- Scott Olsen pitched eight outstanding innings, lifting the Florida Marlins to a 5-2 victory over the San Diego Padres. Olsen (5-4), yielded a run, four hits and two walks while striking out three to earn his first victory since May 6. The southpaw, who threw 67 of his 97 pitches for strikes, had been 0-3 in his 11 previous outings. Hanley Ramirez belted his 22nd homer in the third inning before Mike Jacobs made it, 3-0, in the fourth with a two-run shot off Cha Seung Baek (0-2). Rookie John Baker drove in his first career run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth and Wes Helms walked later in the frame for a 5-1 lead. Scott Hairston hit a solo homer in the sixth and rookie Chase Headley added an RBI hit in the ninth for the Padres, who lost for the 10th time in 11 home games.
