Ex-Charger Foley Settles for $5.5 Million

SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- Former San Diego Chargers linebacker Steve Foley has settled his lawsuit against the city of Coronado and an off-duty police officer who shot him for $5.5 million, according to a San Diego Union-Tribune report. On September 3, 2006, Officer Aaron Mansker shot Foley in the back of the left knee and the hip after following him to his home because he suspected the Charger was drunk. Mansker said he thought Foley had a weapon, but the player did not. Foley pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor drunk driving charge last year and was sentenced to five years' probation, the paper said. The shooting incident ended Foley's career and he was formally cut by the Chargers prior to last season.
