Down The Stretch: Del Mar Update

DEL MAR (DMTC) - An almost unprecedented string of longshots Saturday led to a record Pick Six carryover at Del Mar of 1561987 which will be added to Sundays Pick Six pool. The tracks previous high carryover was 1117973 on July 29 1990.

The six race sequence saw every favorite defeated several by stout outsiders. The upsets mean Sundays Pick Six Pool at the track is likely to surpass the tracks all-time Pick Six total pool of 3555771 established on August 15 1998.

The prices in the days final six races on the 10race card were 5th Dr. J.J. 12.60 6th Black Astor 11.80 7th Charlies Moment 44.20 8th Weekend Escape 49.20 9th Storm Mesa 17.60 and 10th Gold Star Status 49. Favorites were shutout in all 10 races. The Pick Six did pay a record consolation prize of 218977.40 to two ticket holders who had five of the winners.

Additionally the track set a new Pick Four standard when only three tickets tabbed the last four races on the card for a payoff of 200000.70 crushing the previous high of 85945.80 set last year on July 22.

The record Pick Six carryover for Sunday is the result of a threeday carryover. The previous record was a four-day carryover.

Del Mars total handle for the day was 20531679 the ninth largest in its history.
