Sabathia Shuts Down San Diego

CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- C.C. Sabathia struck out 10 batters over eight innings as the Cleveland Indians took the rubber game of an interleague series with the San Diego Padres, 7-3. Sabathia (5-8) allowed three runs, six hits and a walk en route to following up on a five-hit shutout over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday. The lefthander has won four of his last five home starts, posting a 1.13 ERA and 40 strikeouts over his last 40 innings at Progressive Field. Ben Francisco had two hits for Cleveland, including a three-run homer in the third inning that opened the scoring. Grady Sizemore added a solo shot - his 17th - leading off the seventh. Greg Maddux (3-5) gave up five runs - two earned - and eight hits in six innings for San Diego, which lost for just the third time in its last 11 games.
