Peavy Returns to the Mound Today

SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- Reigning National League Cy Young Award winner Jake Peavy will be activated from the disabled list in time to start Thursday afternoon's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Peavy has been sidelined for the past month by a strained right elbow, an injury that developed over a span of four starts. The righthander made a simulated start Saturday, throwing four pain-free innings. Peavy, who signed a four-year contract worth $52 million this past offseason, is 4-3 with a 2.91 ERA this season. A two-time All-Star, Peavy has not pitched since May 14 against the Chicago Cubs. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list the following day. Peavy, 27, has recorded wins in each of his first two starts against the Dodgers this season, allowing four runs in 15 total innings. He went 3-0 with a 2.08 ERA in five outings against Los Angeles last year.
