Padres on Deck @ Cubs, Game 3 of 4

San Diego (15-25) at Chicago Cubs (23-16), 5:05 pm
CHICAGO (Ticker) - After a dreadful stretch that saw them plummet to to the bottom of their division, the San Diego Padres have played much better of late. They'll need that momentum against red-hot Ted Lilly.
The Padres eye their fourth win in five games on Wednesday when they meet the Chicago Cubs. After suffering through a 4-18 stretch, San Diego took two of three games from the Colorado Rockies last weekend to give them their first series win in nine tries. Following Monday's series-opening 12-3 loss to Chicago, they won again on Tuesday, 4-3.
Lilly (3-4, 5.24 ERA) will likely make another win hard to come by as he is 3-1 with a 2.42 ERA over his last four starts. The lefthander yielded one run and three hits over seven innings, striking out a season-high 10 in a 3-1 victory over Arizona on Friday. Lilly has yet to lose to the Padres in his career, going 3-0 with a 0.77 ERA with 20 strikeouts as a starter.
Reigning National league Cy Young Award winner Jake Peavy (4-2, 2.47) goes for the Padres. Peavy is 2-0 with a 2.10 ERA in five career starts against the Cubs.
