NCAA Lacrosse Championship Preview

FOXBOROUGH, Massachusetts (Ticker) -- Syracuse and Johns Hopkins have captured the most NCAA Division I lacrosse national championships with nine apiece. One of them will claim a 10th title on Monday, when the perennial powers clash for this year's crown at Gillette Stadium, the home of the NFL's New England Patriots.

The one difference is that Johns Hopkins (11-5) has enjoyed more recent success. The Blue Jays are seeking their second straight title and third in four years. Syracuse (15-2) is appearing in its first final since 2004. Both teams reached Monday's title game with thrilling one-goal semifinal victories on Saturday.

The Orange rallied from a five-goal deficit midway through the third quarter to defeat Virginia, 12-11, in double overtime. Senior attackman Mike Leveille scored five goals for the Orange, including the game-winner with 1:43 left in the second overtime period.

Johns Hopkins advanced to its 18th championship game by upsetting No. 1 seed and top-ranked Duke, 10-9. It marked the first time since 1997 that both semifinals were decided by one goal.
