SAN DIEGO (SDSU) - The No. 19/21 San Diego State softball team captured its fourth Mountain West Conference championship in seven seasons with a 6-0 victory over UNLV Saturday afternoon in Las Vegas, Nev. With the win, the Aztecs (43-15, 15-5 MWC) earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The NCAA selection show will air Sunday at 7 p.m. on ESPNU.
Baseball Finishes MWC Play
San Diego State scored five runs in the third inning and got a solid starting effort from sophomore Nate Solow to capture the rubber match of its three-game weekend series at Brigham Young by the score of 9-5. It was the final Mountain West Conference contest of the season for the Aztecs, who are a game behind New Mexico for second place in the league standings with the Lobos still having five MWC contests remaining. With the victory, SDSU finished its conference campaign with a mark of 16-8 and ended the weekend with an overall ledger of 30-22.
Water Polo Rebounds
The fourth-seeded San Diego State water polo team (30-7) downed No. 8 seed Pomona-Pitzer, 11-4, in the consolation round of the National Collegiate Women's Water Polo Championship at Avery Aquatic Center on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Aztecs established an SDSU single-season record 30 wins.
