Padres On Deck @ Phillies, Game 1 of 3

San Diego (10-16) at Philadelphia (14-12), 4:05 pm, 4SD/1090/105.7
PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) - Greg Maddux tries for a third time to notch career win No. 350 on Tuesday as the San Diego Padres visit the Philadelphia Phillies in the opener of a three-game series. If Maddux (2-1, 3.66 ERA) can contain the potent Phillies lineup, he will become just the ninth pitcher in major league history to reach that milestone.
The future Hall of Famer had a chance to pick up the win on Wednesday when he allowed just four hits in seven innings, but Trevor Hoffman blew the save in a 3-2, 13-inning loss to San Francisco. It was a much better effort than Maddux's first attempt at 350. The righthander was rocked for a career-high nine earned runs in a 9-0 loss to Arizona on April 18.
Maddux may not get much support from his teammates though. The Padres have lost 10 of 12 and scored just 11 runs in their last five games.
Philadelphia, which has won six of eight, will send its ace Cole Hamels (2-3, 3.75) to the hill. Hamels has struggled in his last two starts after an outstanding beginning to the season. The 24-year-old has allowed nine runs and 17 hits in his last 14 frames, after yielding just two earned runs in 22 innings to start the season.
