LOS ANGELES (Ticker) - Two of the top righthanders in the game square off when the San Diego Padres visit the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday.

The Padres will send reigning Cy Young winner Jake Peavy to the mound hoping to erase the sting of Thursday night's 1-0 loss at San Francisco. Tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the ninth, pinch hitter Dan Ortmeier doubled to the center field wall off reliever Heath Bell to score Rajai Davis with the winning run. Runs should be hard to come by again on Saturday with Peavy (2-0, 0.56 ERA) facing off against Brad Penny, who finished third in the National League Cy Young voting last season and was the NL's All-Star Game starter in 2006.

Penny (1-1, 2.84) will also be trying to end a skid, as Los Angeles is coming off a three-game sweep in which they were outscored, 23-11, by the Arizona Diamondbacks. The burly righthander has always been at his best in the first half of the season, building up a 20-3 mark with a 2.54 ERA prior to the All-Star break over the past two seasons. This season has been no exception, as Penny has allowed four runs so far in 12 2/3 innings this season. Peavy has won each of his first two starts, allowing just one run in 16 combined innings. The 26-year-old righthander is coming off a complete-game two-hitter against Los Angeles last Saturday in which he yielded just one run while notching eight strikeouts.

San Diego took two of three from the Dodgers last weekend at Petco Park.
