Aztecs Beat
SAN DIEGO (SDSU) - San Diego State football team completed its ninth workout of spring drills Friday afternoon, running through a short two-hour practice in preparation for Saturday's 50-play intrasquad scrimmage. The scrimmage will be open to the public with the Aztecs slated to hit the field at 1:30 p.m. at their on-campus facility.
Aztecs Erupt in Win
San Diego State's bats came alive as they struck for season highs in runs and hits in the Aztecs' 17-1 win over UNLV at Earl E. Wilson Stadium in Las Vegas Friday night. Those runs along with 20 hits came in support of another standout pitching effort by sophomore Stephen Strasburg, who unlike his last time out did not need to worry about run support. The win was the fifth straight for SDSU, which improved to 23-15 overall and 10-3 in the Mountain West Conference.
Softall Wins
Senior Megan McDonald (Glendale, Ariz.) homered in each game to lead the No. 22/24 San Diego State softball team to a sweep of New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M., Friday night. The Aztecs (33-13, 5-3 Mountain West Conference) won the first game, 2-0, before taking the nightcap, 6-4.
Lowery Qualifies
San Diego State senior Alicia Lowery qualified for the NCAA West Regionals in the 100-meter dash and three personal records were set to go along with two seasonal bests on Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.
Golf Inks Two
San Diego State men's golf head coach Ryan Donovan announced the signing Friday of two junior golf standouts to National Letters of Intent. Alex Kang (Oak Park, Calif.) and Andrew Cooley (Surrey, England) will begin classes on Montezuma Mesa next September and will be eligible to compete as freshmen for the Aztecs next season. Kang and Cooley join fall recruit Evan Emerick (Oceanside, Calif.) to round out SDSU's 2008-09 signing class.
