TUCSON, Arizona (Ticker) -- Edgar Gonzalez dazzled in four innings and Trot Nixon homered as the Arizona Diamondbacks captured an 8-4 Cactus League win over the San Diego Padres on Monday.

Gonzalez yielded one run and three hits with three strikeouts en route to lowering his ERA to 1.64. Nixon delivered a two-run homer in the second inning and an RBI-double in the fifth against Padres starter Shawn Estes to help forge a 5-2 lead. Estes was tagged for 10 hits and five runs in 4 2/3 frames to hurt his opportunity of earning the fifth-starter role in San Diego's rotation.

Joey Gerut belted his third home run this spring in the sixth and Callix Crabbe recorded three hits for the Padres, who gave up 15 hits.
