SAN DIEGO (USD) - The University of San Diego women's basketball team has teamed up with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and over 600 high school, junior college, college, and AAU teams in the "Think Pink" initiative, designed to raise awareness for breast cancer. The Toreros will host their "Think Pink" event this Saturday in their home game against the University of San Francisco. Fans who wear pink will be admitted for free to Saturday's showdown with the Dons. The game is set for a 2 p.m. tip inside the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion.The first 200 fans to the game will receive a free "Think Pink" t-shirt, and fans who wish to contribute to this cause can due so by stopping by the City of Hope Tent and make a donation per assist for the game.

Brandon Johnson Tabbed as the WCC Player of the Month
Junior guard Brandon Johnson of the University of San Diego men's basketball team has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Month, the conference office office announced Wednesday afternoon. Johnson was the main catalyst in the Toreros' march up the conference standings. Led by Johnson, the Toreros posted a 4-1 record to open conference play. Johnson averaged a team-best 17.6 points per game, the second best clip in the WCC during January.

Tennis Loses to #8 UCLA
The No. 8 UCLA men's tennis team picked up its fourth straight victory of the season on Wednesday, defeating San Diego, 6-1 in a non-conference showdown at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins (4-0) won the doubles point for the second time in four matches, picking up a pair of victories at court Nos. 2 and 3. UCLA continued to dominate San Diego (1-2) in singles action, moving out to a 6-0 lead in the match by taking five straight wins. USD's lone point on the afternoon came at court No. 1, where 29th-ranked Thomas Liversage defeated Bruin senior Harel Srugo, 3-6, 7-6(5), (12-10).

Becvar Named As Director of marketing & Sponsorship
Ky Snyder, Executive Director of Athletics at the University of San Diego, announced today that Steve Becvar has been hired as the Associate Athletics Director for Marketing and Sponsorship."I am very excited to have Steve Becvar join the USD family," stated Snyder. "He will be a great addition to our department and his vast experience will only help us continue to rise as an athletics department."Becvar, 45, comes to USD after serving as the Executive Associate AthleticDirector and General Manager of Aztec Sports Properties at San Diego StateUniversity since 2003. In this role, his responsibilities includedoverseeing the Aztecs' marketing and corporate sales efforts, along withmedia relations and faculty and operations departments.
