Tiger Moves into Semifinals

MARANA, Arizona (Ticker) -- Having already endured a pair of tense matches earlier in the $8 million WGC Accenture Match Play Championship, Tiger Woods was in no mood for drama Saturday. The world No. 1 is in the final four at the tournament after defeating K.J. Choi 3 and 2.

Woods has little time to enjoy the win as he'll take to the course this afternoon to play either defending champion Henrik Stenson or American Woody Austin in the semifinals. Stenson is 2-up through 14 holes in that match. Woods, who needed 20 holes to beat Aaron Baddeley Friday and rallied from 3-down to defeat J.B. Holmes on Wednesday, never was in jeopardy of losing to Choi.

The pair traded the first two holes and were all square through the front nine. Woods took over from that point, winning the 10th with an eagle-3 and claiming Nos. 12 and 14 with birdies. Dormie 3 on the 16th, Choi was unable to extend the match when he missed a lengthy put to the right. The only top seed remaining and a two-time winner of this event, Woods improved to 28-6 all-time in this event.

In quarterfinal action on the opposite side of the draw, Justin Leonard is 2-up on Vijay Singh through 12 while Stewart Cink is 2-up through 12 on reigning U.S. Open champion Angel Cabrera. The 36-hole championship match will be played Sunday.
