Padres Ink Green For Two Years

SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- San Diego Padres shortstop Khalil Greene reportedly cashed in on his best season to date. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune on Sunday, Green agreed to a two-year, $11 million contract with the Padres, avoiding arbitration.

The 28-year-old Greene, who made $2.5 million last season, will make $4.5 million this campaign and $6.5 million in 2009, the newspaper said. The Union-Tribune also said he rejected a long-term contract, which means he is eligible for free agency following the 2009 season.

Greene hit .254 with a career-high 27 home runs and 97 RBI in 153 games last campaign. A five-year veteran, Greene has hit .254 with 74 home runs and 293 RBI in 554 games with San Diego.
