SAN DIEGO (SDSU) - Junior All-American Erin Floros (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel HS) singled home junior Tonye McCorkle (Santa Ana Heights, Calif.) in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the 25th-ranked San Diego State softball team to a 3-2 win over No. 3/2 Northwestern late Friday night. The win was the ninth straight for the Aztecs, who are off to their best start in school history at 11-1, and second of the day against a 2007 Women's College World Series opponent. Earlier in the night, SDSU defeated defending NCAA champion Arizona, 2-1.

Baseball Upsets San Diego in Opener
In what was billed as a matchup as two of the top-rated pitchers in the country, San Diego State's Stephen Strasburg bested University of San Diego ace Brian Matusz as the Aztecs knocked off the fifth-ranked Toreros, 11-2, to open their 2008 season. Strasburg's pitching was complemented by an SDSU offensive attack that tallied 16 hits and scored all of its runs after falling behind by a pair of runs early in the contest.

Golf Finishes Fourth
The San Diego State men's golf team shot a season-low 13-under-par 275 on Friday to finish in fourth place at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. The Aztecs recorded the second-best team score of the day en route to a combined 29-under 835 for the tournament, which was held at the 6,917-yard, par-72 Leilehua Golf Course. Auburn captured the team title at 44-under 820, comfortably ahead of Texas A&M (-33) and UNLV (-32), while SDSU and SMU (-23) rounded out the top five.

Tennis Home Opener Saturday
After opening the 2008 season with five matches away from "America's Finest City," the San Diego State men's tennis team returns to the friendly environs of Montezuma Mesa this weekend when it squares off against Memphis on Saturday, Feb. 23, at Aztec Tennis Center. First serve for SDSU's 2008 home opener is set for 2 p.m. PT. The Aztecs and Tigers were originally scheduled to play on Feb. 24 at noon, but the threat of rain forecast for Sunday prompted the switch.
