Tritions Report

SAN DIEGO (UCSD) - The UC San Diego men's volleyball team (1-2, 0-2 MPSF) hits the road to face No. 4 UCLA (4-1, 2-0 MPSF) on Thursday, January 17 at 7:00 p.m. in Los Angeles. The Tritons face No. 7 UC Irvine (3-3, 1-1 MPSF) at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday in Irvine. Last week UCSD dropped two matches to No. 1 BYU. Jason Spangler leads UCSD with 5.00 kills per game and is tied for the team lead with 2.45 digs per game. Frank Fritsch adds 3.73 kills per game while Gerald Houseman has a team-high 1.17 blocks per game. The Tritons are 0-32 all-time against UCLA and 7-25 against the Anteaters.

Swimming & Diving Face USD & UCD
The UC San Diego swimming and diving team is back in action this week. On Friday, January 18, the UCSD women's squad hosts the University of San Diego. The Tritons have defeated the Toreros over the last six years, including a 168-110 win in 2007. On Sunday, both the men's and women's teams will be in action when UCSD travels to UC Davis. The first event against the Aggies will begin at 1:00 p.m. The UCSD men's team was last in action on January 4, a loss to Air Force. The women's squad suffered a narrow defeat to PCSC rival Loyola Marymount the following day. After this weekend, the Tritons will have one more meet before the PCSC Championships on Feb. 13-16. UCSD hosts UC Irvine and Cal Baptist on January 26 at 12:00 p.m. in Canyonview Pool.

Fencing Travels To Atlanta
The UC San Diego fencing team split its matches at the NCAA West Invitational over the weekend. The UCSD women's squad defeated Air Force 18-9 and Florida 20-7. The Tritons lost to Stanford 15-12 and Notre Dame 21-6. On the men's side, the Tritons defeated Air Force 14-13 and defeated Florida 22-5. UCSD was edged by Stanford 14-13 and lost to Notre Dame 18-9. Individually, the foil team had the best performance with John Chung, Benjamin Dorn and Cameron Sprowles all posting 9-3 marks. Chelsea Ambort (epee) and Zach Jones (sabre) also went 9-3 for the weekend. UCSD is back in action on Jan. 18-21 at the North American Cup in Atlanta, Georgia. On February 2-3, UCSD travels to Chicago to take on Northwestern.
