SDSU wins at the Pit
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Lorrenzo Wade scored 19 of his 23 points in the second half and San Diego State rallied from a 14-point first-half deficit to beat New Mexico 72-67 on Saturday night. Kyle Spain added 13 points and D.J. Gay scored 12 for the Aztecs (12-4, 2-0 Mountain West), who are off to their best start since opening 12-3 during the 1984-85 season. With the win, the Aztecs ended New Mexico's seven-game winning streak. San Diego State has won five straight over the Lobos (14-3, 1-1), including three in a row at The Pit.

Aztec Women Lose at Home
The San Diego State women's basketball team was held to a season-low 47 points, including an 0-for-11 effort from beyond the arc, as visiting New Mexico claimed a 60-47 victory Saturday afternoon in the Aztecs' 2008 conference home opener at Cox Arena. With the loss, the Aztecs fell to 9-5 overall and 0-2 in league action, while the Lobos improved to 9-6 and 1-1 in MWC play.

USD Downs Dons
SAN DIEGO (USD) Gyno Pomare scored 18 points to lead San Diego to a 46-41 win over San Francisco Saturday night, denying coach Eddie Sutton his 799th career win in the West Coast Conference opener for both teams. The Toreros' 6-foot-8 center had early success, then drew constant double-teaming. He went 8-for-9 from the foul line and San Diego made 22 of 36 free throws compared to just 6-for-8 for the Dons.

Torero Women Lose to USF
SAN FRANCISCO (USD) - Three players recorded double digits paced by Amber Sprague's team-high 17, but it wasn't enough as the University of San Diego women's basketball team dropped their West Coast Conference opener 80-62, to the University of San Francisco Saturday afternoon at War Memorial Gym.With the loss, the Toreros fall to 9-6 overall and 0-1 in the WCC. With the win, the Dons improve to 10-6 overall and 1-0 in the WCC.Sprague led the team with 17 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field to go along with 10 rebounds to lead the Toreros' offense. Both Kiva Herman and Morgan Henderson added in 11 points each. As a team, the Toreros hit 39 percent from the field and out rebounded the Dons 39-37.For the Dons, Nicolia Simmons led the team's offense with a game-high 23 points. Shay Rollins added in 18 points and Dominique Carter had 15 points to help lead the team to victory. The Dons hit 51 percent of the shots from the floor.
