Report: Cameron Signs With Brewers

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Mike Cameron apparently has found a home with the Milwaukee Brewers, who are prepared to completely overhaul their defensive lineup. The Brewers on Friday agreed to a one-year deal with Cameron, according to a report in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Financial terms were not disclosed.

According to the report, the addition of Cameron in center field will result in major changes for a Brewers club which committed 109 errors last season, the sixth-highest total in the majors. A three-time Gold Glove winner, Cameron would provide Milwaukee with a significant defensive upgrade over Bill Hall, who moved from shortstop to center field last season but appeared clumsy at times and committed nine errors.

According to the Journal-Sentinel, Hall will move to third base while reigning NL Rookie of the Year Ryan Braun will shift to left field. Braun also struggled defensively, committing 26 errors in 112 games at the hot corner. Cameron will have to serve a 25-game suspension at the beginning of the upcoming 2008 season for testing positive for a banned stimulant.

The 35-year-old Cameron batted .242 with 21 home runs and 78 RBI in 151 games with the San Diego Padres last season. Cameron is a career .251 hitter with 216 home runs and 786 RBI in 13 seasons with the Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Seattle Mariners, New York Mets and Padres.
