Gates is Questionable For Game

SAN DIEGO (Ticker) - San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates is questionable for Sunday's AFC Divisional game against the Indianapolis Colts due to a sprained left big toe. Gates underwent an MRI exam on Monday, one day after suffering the injury during the second quarter of the Chargers' 17-6 victory over the Tennessee Titans. "It'll be day-to-day and we'll see how it is at the end of the week," San Diego coach Norv Turner said. Gates was hurt after making a short reception while sliding to the ground with 3:34 to play in the first half. Before Gates could get to his feet, Titans defensive tackle Tony Brown hammered him to the ground and it appeared the Pro Bowl tight end's big toe got caught in the turn and bent backward. "I really wasn't impressed with the shot he took at me," Gates told the San Diego Tribune. The team's leading receiver with 75 receptions and nine touchdown catches, Gates was taken from the field on a cart and did not return.
