Caddie Killed in San DIego

SAN DIEGO (Ticker) - Longtime PGA Tour caddie Steve Duplantis was killed in an automobile accident on Wednesday morning. He was 35. The Canadian, who was known as one of the most colorful characters on the PGA Tour, was killed early Wednesday morning in Del Mar, California when he was struck by a taxi. According to a sheriff's report, Duplantis stepped off a median and into the path of a taxi. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Duplantis was in San Diego to work the Buick Invitational for Eric Axley.

"The PGA Tour is saddened by the loss of one of its family members," PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said. "We send our thoughts and condolences to Steve's friends and family." Duplantis had a reputation for his partying ways but was also known for bringing out the best in his players. He had caddied for former major winners Jim Furyk and Rich Beem.
