Winnipeg Wins Grey Cup in Canada

TORONTO (Ticker) -- James Johnson set a Grey Cup record with his third interception of the game late in the fourth quarter Sunday as the Saskatchewan Roughriders defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, 23-19.

Saskatchewan took a 23-14 lead early in the fourth quarter when Kerry Joseph connected with Andy Fantuz for a 29-yard touchdown. It was the Roughriders' first offensive touchdown of the game. After Saskatchewan's Jamie Boreham tied a Grey Cup record by conceding his third safety of the game, Winnipeg cut the deficit to 23-19 on Troy Westwood's 42-yard field goal with 3:47 remaining. On the Blue Bombers' final drive, Johnson stepped in front of a pass by Winnipeg's Ryan Dinwiddie and sealed Saskatchewan's third Grey Cup in team history. Johnson was selected as the Player of the Game.

Dinwiddie was making his first career playoff start after CFL regular-season passing leader Kevin Glenn broke his arm in the Blue Bombers' 19-9 victory over Toronto in the East Conference final. Dinwiddie completed 15-of-33 passes for 225 yards and one touchdown. Joseph finished 13-for-34 for 181 yards and one interception as Saskatchewan won the league title under first-year coach Kent Austin.

The CFL's Outstanding Player this season, Joseph also rushed for 101 yards on 10 carries. Luke Congi kicked three field goals for the Roughriders, who beat Winnipeg for the second time in three games this season. Fantuz was named the game's Outstanding Canadian, finishing with four receptions for 70 yards. Charles Roberts led the Blue Bombers with 47 yards rushing on 13 carries. The Roughriders previously won Grey Cup championships in 1966 and 1989.
