SAN DIEGO (Source: USD) - The USD Torero football team, under the direction of first year head coach Ron Caragher, make their second consecutive trip back to the midwest this weekend when they take on Valparaiso University on Saturday, kickoff at 11:00 a.m. PT at Brown Field in Valparaiso, Indiana. The radio broadcast will air live on 1700 AM and via the internet at www.usdtoreros.com.

The Toreros lead the series with Valparaiso, 9-5 and have won the last three meetings, including last season's 68-7 win in San Diego. Two years ago at Valparaiso, QB Josh Johnson tossed a school record 7 first half touchdowns in the team's 63-21 victory.

USD remained in the No. 1 spot for The Sports Network FCS Top-10 Mid-Major Poll. This week the Toreros received all 28 possible first place votes. Rounding out the top-10 is Drake (4-1), Dayton (4-1), Central Connecticut State (2-2), Robert Morris (3-2), Morehead State (3-1), Albany (1-3), Iona (4-1), Butler (4-1) and Stony Brook (2-3). In the Sports Network FCS Top-25 poll, the Toreros are receiving votes (52) and sit in the 35th spot overall.

Torero senior quarterback Josh Johnson (Oakland, CA), a 2007 Payton Watch candidate, was named a national player of the week by two media outlets on Monday - The Sports Network and College Sporting News. Johnson also earned his third straight PFL Offensive Player of the Week honor after his outstanding performance in the team’s 56-9 win over Butler.
