Tiger is in the Hunt for FedEx Cup

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- Tiger Woods moved within two strokes of leader Tim Clark after the opening round at the Tour Championship on Friday. Woods, among 20 players unable to finish the round Thursday due to a three-hour weather delay, had seven holes left when play resumed at 8 a.m. local time Friday morning.

The world No. 1, Woods promptly collected three birdies in four holes before parring home on a muggy morning at East Lake to finish the round with a 6-under-par 64, tied for third with fellow American John Rollins. Clark, a South African who finished his first round on Thursday, maintained the lead at 8-under 62, one stroke ahead of Irishman Padraig Harrington.

Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose, the only other Europeans in the 30-man field, were in the middle of the pack, Garcia shooting a 68 and Rose a 69. The Tour Championship is the finale of the PGA Tour's new four-event playoff series. Woods leads the overall points list and is the heavy favorite to collect the $10 million bonus awarded to the playoff winner. Even before the first round finished, the second round began in an effort to beat forecasted thunderstorms.
