Padres Seeking Playoff Berth

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The San Diego Padres ended the Milwaukee Brewers' postseason dreams on Friday. They will look to keep help their own Saturday when they visit the Brewers. The Padres hold a two-game lead in the National League wild card race over the New York Mets (87-73) and the Colorado Rockies (87-73), and are one game behind the Arizona Diamondbacks (90-70) in the NL West. Milwaukee was eliminated from postseason contention when it dropped the series opener on Friday, 6-3.

Chris Young (9-8, 3.13 ERA) will attempt to win for the first time since July 19 when he takes the mound for the Padres. The lanky righthander led the league in ERA before the All-Star break, but is just 0-5 with a 6.08 ERA in 10 starts since his last win. He was knocked around for seven runs and eight hits in five innings last Monday, taking a loss at San Francisco.

The Brewers will try to play spoiler with righthander Dave Bush (12-10, 5.16). The veteran hurler won his last start, but was knocked around by the Padres for seven runs and nine hits in five innings on May 25 - taking a loss in his lone start against them this season.
