Padres Face Old Teammate Wells Tonight

San Diego (78-65) at LA Dodgers (75-69,) 7:10 pm, 4SD/1090/105.7

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) - The San Diego Padres try to bounce back in the final of a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday. Greg Maddux (12-9, 3.68 ERA) takes the hill for the Padres with the hopes of notching his sixth straight winning decision.

In his last outing, the righthander yielded one run and three hits through six innings in Saturday's triumph at Colorado. The win also saw Maddux extend his streak without a walk to 54 1/3 innings - a span of 212 batters. The 41-year-old veteran defeated the Dodgers, limiting them to two runs in 6 1/3 frames at Petco Park on June 6. Maddux is 15-7 with a 2.75 ERA in 33 lifetime starts against Los Angeles.

The Dodgers counter with David Wells(10-4, 3.22), who is making his second start against the club that released him earlier this season. On August 31, the lefthander surrendered three hits and six hits over five innings in a no-decision against San Diego. In his last start, the 44-year-Wells returned from a seven-day suspension to give up two runs and four hits in seven frames for a win at San Francisco.

Chad Billingsley hurled six solid innings and won his fourth straight decision as the Dodgers cruised to a 6-1 triumph in Wednesday's matchup.
