7 Things You Do Not Know About...

Being A Host on a Sports Pre- & Post-Game Show

By John Weisbarth
Channel 4 SD's Pre- & Post-Game Show Host

1.) The show is off-the-cuff.

We don’t use a teleprompter and there is no script. The entire show is done ad lib…though we do have an outline and notes in front of us.

2.) Keep your eyes above the set.

I wear shorts and flip-flops behind the desk whenever possible (i.e. when the bosses aren’t around).

3.) They tell the funny jokes in my ear.
I wear an ear piece called an IFB (not sure what it stands for) that allows the show director and producer to talk to me while we are on air.

4.) Masculine Maybelline Cosmetics.
I wear make-up when I’m in studio, which was weird at first but then you get used to it.

5.) We have it easy, the action is really behind the scenes.
When you watch the pre or post-game shows you only see two or three people on camera but there are four times as many people behind the scenes working very hard to make us look good.

6.) Our set is next to the sun.
When they turn the lights on is the studio the temperature goes up about 10 degrees

7.) Our show will not go away, we are very versatile.
When baseball season ends the Padres Post-game show will turn into a nightly “Sports Center” style show, complete with scores and highlights and in-depth features that will run 5 nights a week (Mon. – Fri.) from 10 to 10:30 PM. See you then
