Local Baseball Teams Go In Different Directions


USD Wins Series vs. Pepperdine; Aztecs Swept in Battle For First with TCU
The University of San Diego baseball team was ranked 16th going into the weekend, however by winning the first two games of their important three-game set with the 12th-ranked Pepperdine University Waves, USD has cracked into the top-10 of the national rankings, checking in at No. 9 n the latest Baseball America top-25 poll, and at No. 10 in the latest Collegiate Baseball top-30 poll. The Toreros are also ranked No. 13 in the latest Rivals.com top-25 poll.
With the two wins, USD improved to 34-14 overall, 12-2 in the WCC, having won their 11th consecutive WCC game and hold a two-game lead over the Waves for first place in conference. The Waves fell to 30-15 overall and 10-4 in the WCC. The Toreros and Waves will conclude their three-game series on Monday with a 3 p.m. game at Cunningham Stadium on the USD campus.
In Fort Worth, Texas, the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs swept the weekend series with the San Diego State Aztecs. TCU improved to 34-10 overall and 15-2 in the Mountain West Conference while SDSU dropped 27-21 (11-7 MWC).
