ANAHEIM (Ticker) -- Chipper Jones is having a remarkable season, but it's a different Jones who might lead the Atlanta Braves to their first sweep away from Turner Field this season. Rookie Brandon Jones will try to help the Braves complete a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Sunday. Playing in his third major league contest, the 24-year-old Jones blasted his first career home run Saturday as Atlanta posted a 9-4 triumph. He is 5-for-8 (.625) with a double and two RBI over the first two games of this series. Angles starter Joe Saunders (9-3, 3.32 ERA) will attempt to contain Jones and become the third pitcher in the American League to reach the 10-win plateau, joining Cleveland's Cliff Lee and New York's Mike Mussina. Saunders failed to reach that mark in his last outing, relinquishing eight runs and nine hits over 4 2/3 innings during Monday's 13-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. The injury-plagued Braves will send rookie righthander Jorge Campillo (2-0, 2.15) to the mound. The 29-year-old Mexican has been used as both a starter and reliever this season with John Smoltz, Tom Glavine and Mike Hampton all on the disabled list.
DETROIT (Ticker) -- The Detroit Tigers turn to Nate Robertson to keep their streak alive. Robertson and the Tigers aim for their second straight three-game sweep when they conclude an interleague series with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday. Detroit outscored Los Angeles, 12-7, on Saturday for its fifth consecutive win. The home team produced nine of those runs in the fourth and fifth innings to also win for the seventh time in eight games. The Tigers now hand the ball to Robertson (4-6, 5.88 ERA), who has won three of his last four starts after beginning the season at 1-5. The lefthander allowed three runs and eight hits in 6 1/3 innings in a 6-4 win over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday. Los Angeles, which has dropped four straight, sends rookie Clayton Kershaw (0-1, 4.50) to the mound looking for his first career win. The 20-year-old lefthander would like more run support from his teammates as he has yielded two runs or less in three of his four outings, but has yet to notch a win. Over its last four games, Los Angeles has been limited to just eight runs, getting shut out twice. The Dodgers have been especially bad on the road, losing six in a row and 11 of 13 away from Dodgers Stadium.
