USD Falls to South Alabama
SAN DIEGO (USD) - The USD Toreros dropped their 4th straight contest in a span of seven days with today's 77-55 loss to South Alabama. USD, coming off a string of hardfought losses to UNLV, SDSU, and USC, did not produce the same intensity or approach in falling to 2-6 on the season. The Toreros will try to regroup tomorrow before returning Sunday to face UC Irvine in a 12:30 p.m. matchup that will air on ESPNU. Brandon Johnson led USD with 17 points while Gyno Pomare chipped in with 11. South Alabama, which shot 50% for the game, and outrebounded USD 38-21, was paced by guard Demetric Bennett with 28 points.

Women's Hoops Runs Past Southern Utah
A big second half push and Kiva Herman's game-high 14 points helped lead the University of San Diego women's basketball team (3-2) to a 63-45 win over visiting Southern Utah University (1-4) Friday afternoon in a non-conference game at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.Herman paced the game with her 14 points on a 7-for-14 performance from the field. Amanda Rego was also impressive as she had 11 points, a game-high eight assists, seven steals and seven rebounds. Sam Child was the third USD player in double figures, as the Portland, Ore. native went 5-for-12 from the field and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds. As a team, USD out rebounded the Thunderbirds 49-39 and shot 38 percent from the field.
